The RoboTigers are a rookie team in Viola, IL, USA, made up of four boys, all under the age of 10.
As you might imagine, when they heard of FIRST® LEGO® League, they were all very excited about playing with LEGO bricks and robots. Interested in or excited about recycling trash? Not so much. Core values? What does that even mean? They’d have so much to learn.
When we heard about the FIRST LEGO League kickoff event, we were anxious to bring the boys to it with the hopes that they’d learn some techniques and find some inspiration.
Along with all the interesting and helpful teaching sessions, there was a video made by Chad Pregracke, a man who has dedicated his life to cleaning up our waterways. It turned out to be just the inspiration the boys needed.
After the kickoff, we stopped for a picnic lunch along the riverfront. When the boys were done eating, the most amazing thing happened…
They began to collect trash along the shore, and dispose of it properly!
We’re proud of our RoboTigers. They are on the right track. In the words of the FIRST LEGO League, it’s not what we win that matters, but what we learn along the way.
